Temporary Road Closures

Homestead Road will be temporarily closed to traffic from 109 metres west of County Road 41 to 250 metres west of County Road 41 on June 9, 2026, from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. This closure is necessary for a cross culvert replacement.

Please be advised that portions of Springside Park and Bracken Street will be closed from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. This closure is necessary to facilitate clean up efforts around encampment sites and to remove hazardous materials from the park.

The trail at Springside Park will remain open; however, access to and from the trail via Bracken Street will be closed during this time.

June 12, 2026

The trail at Springside Park will be closed from the base of the falls to Bracken Street on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Portions of Springside Park and Bracken Street will also be closed to support cleanup efforts at encampment sites that have been deemed abandoned.

Every Saturday until October 3

Market Square will be closed to traffic every Saturday until October 3 for the operation of a farmers’ market.

During this time, public parking will be unavailable between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. Vehicles parked in this public area may be towed without notice if in violation.

Full Road Rehabilitiation Projects

Beechwood Road

Portions of Beechwood Road have been identified as requiring rehabilitation. These sections are located between County Road 1 and Drive-In Road, as well as Johnson Sideroad to Deseronto Road. The road will be pulverized back to a gravel state, with additional gravel added. This will be followed by an application of Surface Treatment over the entire road. Preparation work, including tree clearing, ditching, culvert replacements, grading, and granular applications will be completed using Town resources. A contractor will complete the pulverization and surface treatment portions of the work.

Start Date: May 1, 2026
End Date: June 30, 2026

Traffic will be reduced to alternating single lane closures for the duration of the project. Traffic construction signs will be installed. Drivers and pedestrians are required to obey all construction signs and expect delays.

Homestead Road has been identified in the Roads Need Study as requiring rehabilitation. The road will be pulverized back to a gravel state, with additional gravel added. This will be followed by an application of surface treatment over the entire road. The preparation work (trees, ditching, and culverts) will be performed using Town resources, and a contractor will perform the pulverization and surface treatment applications.

Old Hamburg Rd, Champlain St, Old Kingston Rd

A portion of Old Hamburg Road, Champlain Street, and Old Kingston Road were affected by construction activities last year due to the servicing of utilities to the new housing development being constructed along Old Hamburg Road and Champlain Street. Due to some outstanding construction efforts still remaining within the road allowances of these roads, the surface was unable to be reapplied during the 2025 construction season. The remaining required construction activities are scheduled to be carried out during May and the first part of June, in order to reapply surface treatment around mid-June.

Single Surface Treatment Program

Single Surface Treatment

Roads Scheduled for Single Surface Treatment:

Westplain Road, Meach Road, Manion Road, Salmon River Road, Shermans Point Road, Old Hamburg Road, Pine Grove Road, and Pine Grove Road.

Work will begin on the rehabilitation of approximately 16.5 kms of surface treated roadways with localized surface repairs and application of a single surface treatment (chip seal). These chip seals typically add 6 to 8 years of additional service life at a relatively low cost. Rehabilitation works also helps to lower unplanned maintenance costs (potholes, cracking and edge break up).

Bridge Projects

Manion Road Bridge

Based on the last Biannual OSIM's inspection, it was identified that the installation of a barrier system is required on the Manion Road Bridge. This includes the procurement and installation of compliant steel beam guiderails and end treatments in accordance with current bridge safety standards.

End Date: June 15, 2026

401 CN Rail Bridge

Based on the last Biannual OSIM's inspection, it was identified that this structure requires descaling of the concrete coating that is applied to the underside of this bridge, as well as a more in depth inspection of the structure that would be carried out in conjunction to the descaling. This work will require lane closures and is estimated to take 2 nights to complete.

End Date: October 30, 2026

Granular Resurfacing

Buttermilk Falls Road

Resurfacing adds a 4 inch layer of new granular material to restore the gravel road surface. This rebuilds the wearing course, improves drainage, and strengthens the road structure. This is required when the existing surface has thinned, lost fines, or no longer holds shape. There is also some preliminary brushing, tree clearing, and ditching to be conducted prior to resurfacing.

Temporary Road Closure Applications

If you require the short-term use of a municipal road and/or sidewalk you will need to obtain a temporary road closure permit from the Town. Permits are issued by the Public Works Department in accordance with Town By-law No. 2025-0032.

As per Council policy, there is no application fee or barricade rental cost for temporary road closures associated with a Local Not-for-Profit Event. Applicant organizations will still be responsible for costs associated with:

Staffing to supervise the road closure and road safety plan;

Liability insurance; and

Providing notice to businesses and residents within the closure area.

Road closures that are part of a community event, such as a race, parade, or festival, will also be required to submit a Community Event Application.

Temporary road closures associated with construction or other commercial policies will also require a Municipal Easement Work Permit from the Public Works Department.

Temporary road closures that involve a County road will also require approval from the County of Lennox and Addington. If your requested road closure includes a County road, Town staff will forward your application and contact information on to County staff.
